Tip 6 - Create A Kitchen Collage

When you have no idea what style, look or layout you want for you kitchen, copy from others and create your own masterpiece.

When you contact a kitchen manufacturing company or a kitchen design company you will always get asked the same question “What style do you have in mind?”

Telling them you’re not sure is ok, but this isn’t giving them any real clues as to what you want. This means you are leaving the design up to them which is setting you up to fail in more occasions that not.

Visiting kitchen show rooms can give you ideas. Take pics and ask questions from the show room assistant.

The other option is to buy a few different kitchen design magazines, search on google for images or go on social media.

All of these work as long as you start to collect and edit the designs you like, so you can show them to the design team remodelling your kitchen.

European kitchens are all the rage in New Zealand. If you’re like the majority of people looking for something new that will not date quickly and last 10-20 years, then Italian designs will be right up your street!

But if all the kitchen companies are selling designer Italian kitchens, then who do you go with to install your kitchen?

The answer is usually, who ever understands your needs, is willing to listen, can guide you on what’s practical and can make your kitchen within your budget.

Breaking down the different areas of the kitchen can make it easier to design.

Create a list of kitchen appliances and requirements like below.

Sinks and Taps

Cook Top - Gas or Electric. 4 or 6 burner.

Oven and Hob Combo, Oven Wall Unit, Double Oven etc.

Bench tops - stone, porcelain, formica etc.

Splash backs, tiling, glass splash backs

Kitchen lighting, spotlights, LEDs, ambiance lighting

Kitchen Island. With cook top, with sink, waterfall finishing.

Kitchen Flooring, tiles or wood.

Cabinet door finishing. Melamine, matt finish, hi gloss, lacquer, foil heated PVC etc.

This list of appliances from fridges to toasters all help with the final kitchen design.

Knowing what you want can save time, reduce frustration and help with planning, scheduling and budgeting. The advantages are absolutely worth the time and effort.
